Tooth Extractions Sherwood & Canby

Do Not Let a Damaged Tooth Destroy Your Smile

Tooth Extractions at Cary Dental

It is rarely a person’s first choice to get a tooth pulled. While it may seem counterproductive to remove a tooth to keep your mouth healthy, sometimes it is necessary for your long-term oral health. Because of decay, serious structural damage, or your wisdom teeth coming in, at times the tooth being there can do more harm than good.

At Cary Dental, we take a conservative approach to tooth extractions and will only remove a tooth if it is absolutely necessary for your overall oral health.

When is a dental extraction necessary?

  • Impacted/Crowding due to wisdom teeth
  • Severe infection, damage, or decay
  • Bone loss in your jaw

Different Types of Dental Extractions

Tooth Extractions

Removing a tooth is generally performed to ensure the proper function of how your teeth, gums, and jaw work. If something is off in one of these key areas, the problem will not go away without intervention. When a tooth is removed, it should always be replaced. At Cary Dental, we offer many options, including: dental implants, dentures, and bridges to restore the proper health and function of your mouth.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction

Most people will have to have their wisdom teeth removed due to pain, overcrowding, decay, or the tooth being impacted (coming in sideways). Wisdom teeth commonly come in and are removed between the ages of 17 and 25 but sometimes are not removed until later in life. In most cases, wisdom teeth are not necessary for the proper functioning of your mouth and do not need to be replaced for your overall oral health.

Dental Extraction Process

  • Prior to the extraction we will use our 3D imaging tools and/or digital x-rays to ensure that the extraction and recommended replacement options are right for you.
  • Our wonderful office staff will then schedule an appointment time for the extraction.
  • At your appointment you will be given anesthetic so you do not feel anything and the tooth can be removed comfortably.
  • Depending on the treatment you have chosen to replace your tooth, i.e. an implant, we normally let the area heal 4-6 months before starting the next step to replace the tooth.

Generally, people may experience some discomfort but should not experience any pain after a tooth extraction. Cary Dental will offer instructions to lessen the discomfort and strategies for recovering quickly.
