How does teeth whitening work?

All of the teeth whitening treatments at Cary Dental use a whitening gel that opens the pores on your teeth and breaks down the stains under your tooth’s enamel. Discolored molecules are able to break free, allowing your teeth to return closer to their original color.

Teeth whitening works particularly well when teeth are stained yellow, but is less effective when teeth are stained gray or brown. Stains on crowns, fillings, veneers, or caps cannot be removed with teeth whitening treatment.

This patient had worn and crooked teeth. Crowns were needed to prevent fractures. Unfortunately, a misaligned bite would cause the crowns to wear, too. A full mouth rehabilitation, including braces and crowns, was the answer.

This patient’s front teeth were discolored and worn. One tooth was cracked and had to be removed. We used a dental implant and four new crowns to restore her smile.
