Dental Sealants Sherwood & Canby

Protect the Hard to Reach Places in Your Mouth

What Are Dental Sealants?

Believe it or not, no matter how thoroughly you brush and floss your teeth there may be spots you cannot adequately clean. These spots, such as the pits and grooves in your teeth, are common areas where decay can begin and spread.

Dental sealants are a preventive measure to keep this from happening by providing extra protection to these areas. A resin material is applied to these pits, grooves, and other problem areas, preventing bacteria from entering in these areas. This non-invasive treatment blends in with your natural tooth color and is an excellent way to protect teeth from tooth decay.

Benefits of Tooth Sealants

  • No numbing needed — this is a pain-free treatment
  • Preserves your natural tooth structure as nothing needs to be removed
  • Natural-looking and feeling — no one will see it and you will not feel it
  • Lasts for years, and can be reapplied after several years of normal wear
  • Less expensive than the cost to treat advanced decay

Dental Sealants for All Ages

Many adult patients are surprised to hear us recommend dental sealants for their own mouths, as it is often associated with children’s dentistry. While we do recommend that children receive dental sealant treatment on their permanent teeth, tooth sealants are a great option for adults, and will help avoid costly advanced decay treatments down the road. This is particularly true for adults with a history of tooth decay.

    Cary Dental’s Sealant Process

Generally, we will recommend dental sealants to you during your twice-yearly exam and cleaning. If you choose to move forward with the sealants, we will schedule you a time to come back so we can place the sealants.

Here is how dental sealant treatment works:

    • We will polish each tooth removing any microfilm.
    • We will apply a thin layer of the sealant material on the spots alongs the pits and grooves of your back teeth.
    • You will not have to wait to eat or drink after treatment — resume your day as normal.
    • Sealants can be reapplied if they wear off over the years.

The sealant material we use at Cary Dental is made from a resin, similar to white filling material, and will never affect your ability to speak, eat, or smile.

    Smile Makeover

This patient had worn and crooked teeth. Crowns were needed to prevent fractures. Unfortunately, a  misaligned bite would cause the crowns to wear, too. A full mouth rehabilitation, including braces and crowns, was the answer.

    Dental Implants & Smile Makeover

This patient’s front teeth were discolored and worn. One tooth was cracked and had to be removed. We used a dental implant and four new crowns to restore her smile.

    Orthodontics (Teenager)

This patient came to our office with crowded teeth, a narrow arch, and poor bite. We used Crozat orthodontics and braces to help her jaw grow, creating room for adult teeth and fixing her poor bite.

    Braces & Implant
