White Fillings Sherwood & Canby

Stop Decay in Its Tracks

One of the best ways to keep your mouth healthy is treating decay early. No matter how much you brush, floss, and keep up with regular dentist appointments, decay, also known as cavities, can develop. Leaving decayed teeth untreated or waiting until you are experiencing pain/discomfort can result in more expensive dental treatment including root canals, crowns or even tooth extraction.

    What Are White Fillings?

White fillings are known as composite resin fillings. Composite fillings are made of glass, quartz, or ceramic particles mixed in a resin base. The composite is bonded to your tooth structure and cured with a blue light after the decay has been removed from your tooth. Even though the composite fillings are metal free, they are very durable and will last many years with the right aftercare.

    Reasons for composite fillings:

    • Decayed teeth
    • Cracked or broken teeth
    • Chipped teeth
    • Worn down teeth

    Benefits of White Fillings

    • Closely matches the shade and color of your teeth
    • Resin material is bonded directly to your teeth
    • Removes less tooth structure than with amalgam fillings, reducing the risk of fractured teeth
    • Extremely durable — they can actually strengthen your teeth
    • Safer than amalgam fillings, as they include no mercury

    White Composite Filling Process

At Cary Dental, we believe a proper diagnosis leads to healthier mouths. We have invested in some of the finest diagnostic tools available to ensure we catch dangerous tooth decay before it gets out of hand.

Generally, cavities will be diagnosed during an exam. We will explain the severity of your decay and recommend the treatment right for you. For minimally advanced decay, we will generally recommend a white filling.

Once diagnosed and you decide to move forward with treatment:

    1. Our office staff will schedule an appointment(s) for you to see the Doctor.
    2. Anesthetic will be used to numb the areas where the fillings are located.
    3. The decayed area of your tooth or teeth is removed and the composite material is placed to fill in the area that was removed. With composite fillings, we are able to remove only  the necessary decayed tooth structure which reduces compromising the tooth further.
    4. The last step is to smooth and polish your new restoration to ensure it correctly aligns with your bite.

This patient had worn and crooked teeth. Crowns were needed to prevent fractures. Unfortunately, a  misaligned bite would cause the crowns to wear, too. A full mouth rehabilitation, including braces and crowns, was the answer.

    Dental Implants & Smile Makeover

This patient’s front teeth were discolored and worn. One tooth was cracked and had to be removed. We used a dental implant and four new crowns to restore her smile.
